
SPIRAL stands for Sports Performance, Injury (prevention), Rehabilitation, And Locomotion, representing our lab’s full-spectrum approach to understanding human movement.
The lab is led by Brianne Borgia, PhD, Assistant Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University.

The SPIRAL LAB team at Quinnipiac University is studying how different types of footwear affect mobility in adults.
By joining this study, you’ll contribute to research aimed at better understanding walking & balance!
Who Can Participate?

We are looking for healthy adults between ages 18-40 and 50-70 years old who:

Can walk on their own (no assistive devices)

Have no recent lower body injuries or foot pain
-
Do not have diagnosed neurological or sensory disorders
​
You may not qualify if you are pregnant, currently injured, have had a lower-body injury in the past 6 months, or have had major surgery to the lower body.
What will I be asked to do?

You’ll come in for one visit at QU North Haven Campus.

The session takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.

During the visit, you’ll do some simple activities like walking, balance testing, and short mobility assessments while trying out different shoes and insoles (we provide them).
